Motor Whine

Greetings.

Am considering purchasing a 2005 Landau 2450DS but after test driving it noticed a whine under the hood at approx 60 mph. Backed off to 50, no whine. Not sure I like this, and want to know if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Thanks very much,

I'm guessing it's in the pumpkin. Check fluid in the rear housing. If it's ok it might be time for a change of fluid and/or further inspection for wear....Dennis

Had the same type problem on older National gas motorhomes. It was the grill design. Try installing tape around the slats of your front grill. NOT blocking off air but changing the edges of the grill bars and see if the noise goes away. Doug

Chassis? Motor? Year?
We need a a bit more info!
Could be as simple as an exhaust leak or an AC compressor. Canโ€™t really diagnose a noise on a website.

What chassis/what engine?

Would garner much more specific advice.

Gas/diesel? Ford/Workhorse?

In the past some MH's had noise made by the grill. I'd think if it was an engine made noise if you brought the rpms up to the same as they were when it was going 60 the noise should again be there. This wouldn't happen if it's drive train noise though.

You can buy an inexpensive automotive stethoscope to pin down the exact location but that is hard to do at 60 MPH. To me a whine is usually a bearing like from the alternator, etc.
I may also be wind noise from a front window weep hole cover missing.
