My 2008 F-250 (a little rant)

I've had my truck since November 2007. It is 12 years old. I've had very little trouble with until the last year or so. And this past week was rough. I needed to change my ball joints, tie rod and shocks. The mechanic also told me I need to change my body mount bushings. I should have a brand new truck after this! LOL I keep telling my wife it's still cheeper than buying a new one.

Attn Ford owners: The body mount bushing are a design flaw by Ford and they have not corrected the problem. They will fail on you in time. If they do, DO NOT buy the Ford replacement! It is the same thing and domed to fail. Buy a Kevlor after market replacemaent.

Very common according to my independent mechanic, he has done several including mine. Unless you don't happen to notice the bed and cab line don't line up on site lines or noise when you go over a large bump most people probably wouldn't notice.

I'm guess most don't think it a big deal and it can be done in the driveway with basic tools for not a lot of money and just a bit of sweat equity. Most of the youtub vids you see the bushing are totally shot.

Maybe it's not that big a deal or perhaps a lot of owners don't even know its an issue. I see lots of trucks with the cab touching the bed and not just Fords, guess people just don't really notice??

So, they lasted 12 years, and you think they should have gone longer?

Its a rubber part, it will eventually dry out and fail. If you got 12 years, I think that pretty good. If you replace it with the OEM replacement, and get another 12, they will probably outlive the rest of the truck.

Maybe I stated it wrong, but i"m trying to make the point: I'm gonna have a new truck after all this. With a little heads up to other Ford owners about an immanent problem to look out for. More like an FYI.

The Super Duty body mounts have been a known problem. Some have to replace them early and some last the life of the truck.

Looking at some of the same things with 2000 GM C2500! 19 years, 140K HARD hauling towing miles......
Altho a new one that has the ability to get double the MPG would be nice! 11-12 mpg is not fun1

It's OK to say Ford screwed up this one bitty part, they all do, you can keep your fan boi card if you have one :).

Those sure are poor quality components by Ford, but nice that they are a super easy and cheap fix.

I don't know about that really. 13yo and 450k kms and they are just starting to go? I've replaced just about all the suspension, steering and drive components under my truck that move. It would be nice if everything lasted forever but nothing does.

If you look at a sample of 1, that high mileage and age doesn't look too bad. However, if you dig a little you will see that they fail early and often and the truck doesn't have to be a high miler to experience the failure of these bushings.

I'm not ragging on Ford, all brands have some type of similar issue with one part or another. In Fords, these bushings are something they screwed up. Clearly a poor materials choice.

Had to replace the body cab bushings on my 2000 Ford F-250 as well, mechanic suggested polyurethane bushings. The old ones collapse over time and let the cab hit the frame making a noise.
