New to towing, hitch weight question

Hey all, new to towing and have a hitch weight question. The toy hauler TT I'm really want has a stated hitch weight of 1,015 lbs but my truck says it has a max tongue weight of 970 lbs. The TT GVWR is 9,985 lbs with a dry weight of 6,373 lbs. Should I get this trailer or do I have to be bummed and have to settle for a different one since the hitch rating of the TT is 45lbs higher than the TV tongue rating?

Keep in mind that toy haulers have more tongue weight when unloaded. Throw those heavy toys in the garage (behind the axles) and the tongue weight goes down.

You'll want more truck regardless. That's a lot of trailer for a half ton.

Check your manual. Sometimes there are different ratings if you use a distribution hitch.

For what its worth I think that the 10k gross is to much for a 1500. Mine was 7200 and I wouldn't do much more than that.

The usual standard for a Weight Carrying hitch is 500lb. So his 970 is 99% sure to be a WDH weight.

To the op. You gonna need more truck, or less trailer and appears you realize it. Good luck, and happy camping

My wifes 2016 1500 chevy 5.3 6L80e 3.42 gears 4wd trailer package OEM reciever is rated at 1250 lb load and 11k lb tow.
Look on the bottom of the hitch on the truck for its load and draw weight rating.

It's a 2019 Silverado 5.3 eco v8 R71 RST. Just like I figured I'd have to go with the smaller TT which comes in at 690 hitch weight and GVWR of 7690

Even a trailer with a unloaded hitch weight of 690 you may be over your hitch rating still...a trailer with a GVWR of 7690 has the potential to have a loaded hitch rating upwards of 1150 lbs which still puts you over your trucks max hitch rating...

You didn't state what the TV is, but based on the specs you posted it is a 150/1500.
You want a 250/2500 minimum, better with a 350/3500 SRW.

Trucks stats

GVWR 7000
GCWR 15000
GAWR RR 3800
Max payload 1735
Curb weight 5265

So the stated hitch weight of the TT isn't its rating at GVWR?

That hitch weight will be more once you add batteries and fill water and propane. You may be able to upgrade the truck's receiver if you have sufficient truck payload for more hitch weight.
