We RVers need to Boycott places that don’t allow a special part of the camping experience...”campfires”. It’s bad enough that so many places don’t allow wood fires but not allowing propane campfires is beyond ridiculous.

Oh, the pain of it all! LOL!!! If you want RIDICULOUS look in a mirror. Why should your wants rule? If there's no fire allowed, don't go there. Some of us prefer to be able to breathe. The last think I want is to wind up at the ER due to an asthma attack. Did I stay in campgrounds with fires? Absolutely-I just did my best to stay out of the smoke. Do the same with my fire pit at home. It's called freedom of CHOICE. Why you think you have the right to decide for ME what amenities I should get in a campground is hilarious.


I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be Douglas Adams

RV-less for now but our spirits are still on the open road.

That's not the idea. The idea is he is disappointed by it, and encourages others besides himself to boycott such RV parks and campgrounds that excluded that part of the RVing/Camping experience.
I did not read of it being stopped because of red flag fire warnings or local ordinances. In California, I read sometime ago somewhere of efforts and laws to outlaw outdoor campfires and even BBQ grills, older less efficient wood stove s and fireplaces and even the new high efficency, expensive wood or other stoves like corn or pellet fed.
But that was not brought up by the OP but by others who read that into it or interpreted it that way.

Yup, those two! Camping in a tent used to work with a campfire, especially in the mts. It was cold, fire was warm, stink was okay!I didn't mind crawling in my bag, in the tent, stinking of 2-stroke oil and wood smoke.[emoticon] I see many RVers, not campers, start a fire upon arrival, don't use it/sit by it, but keep it going most of the day. It seems their duty to just keep throwing wood on, got to keep her going no matter no one uses it.

not a bad Idea no m camp fires,they just stink up the camp any way. and if it would save ONE FORREST FIRE it would be worth it. p.s. your fire stinks up my rv. no thanks.

My original message simply states that although I would rather sit by a wood fire, I am not going to register with places that don’t allow at least propane campfires. Yes those business owners have complete right to make that limitation...but they will lose some number of potential customers.

I guess i’m a “tent” camper at heart, now with a RV. Never sit inside my rig...it’s all still about “camping”.

Isn't it great that there are so many different places with different rules? It means we can all go where we agree with the rules.

The OP wants campfires and suggests boycotting parks that don't allow them. No need to start a boycott - just don't go if you don't like it.

I like to take my dogs hiking on trails. So, surprise, I don't go camping in places that don't allow dogs on trails. I don't condemn the other places, I just don't stay there.

Some folks don't like hookups. So they don't stay at places with hookups. They don't demand a boycott on places with hookups.

Some people don't like generators. So they don't stay at places that allow constant generator use. They don't insist on a boycott to ban generators from all places.

The OP wants a campfire. So, the OP should stay at places that don't ban them. That doesn't mean places that do ban them should be run out of business.

Someone else loves places that don't allow campfires. So they go to those places and don't suggest a boycott of the places you prefer.

It's all really rather simple.

Well....until we can rid the world of the tools that don't know how to have campfires SAFELY and know how to put out campfires SAFELY?

There 'will' be bans on campfires and anything that can start a fire. We have seen it first hand how most of these mega fires got started by campfires.

We all saw the devastation of all those homes and lives lost. From irresponsible campers/rv'ers not practicing safe campfire procedures.

So until we can get rid of 'irresponsible' campers we all will have to live with bans on campfire burning in specific fire prone areas.

Simple Solution: Find different CG's in an area that does not have burn bans. yes, it really is that easy! [emoticon]


We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

Not so much hate them.....it's just there are MORE & More inept campers that do NOT know how to have a campfire.
They think smoldering/smokey is good vs an actual fire
And then they go inside!

YEAH.CGs with NO Campfires.
I like the concept
While I don't hate campfires I do agree with inept campers that not only burn wood but garbage and plastic. I to would not want a campfire in close quarter's next to my camper.
