I had a couple of feral kittens show up in my yard. I've been feeding them regularly but they won't let me handle them. Our city has a "cat coalition" that will fix them but can't find enough homes for them so I'll have to take them back. Before I can get to that point they need winter shelter (not too bad here in Texas). I put together a shelter based on a 70 quart Coleman cooler. I cut a hole in one end and put in straw for bedding. Cats aren't too fond of being trapped in a space so I added a cat flap near the other end. It looses some insulation value but I think it works for the cats otherwise.[image]

I've seen those made out of rubbermaid clear plastic containers, bottom side up so the lid is on the bottom and round holes for the cats to go thru. You did a great job and a wonderful thing by helping them. Thank you!

Thanks for looking after our feline friends. After the kittens get used to there new shelter, maybe shield the entrances with a wind break, bale of straw etc.

It won't be long before they become INDOOR cats......
I have an ex feral cat sitting on the sofa next to me right now.

My wife left some chicken out for a couple of feral cats (10? years ago) and
they never left. One disappeared, the other was a female and gave birth to
2 kittens. The mother allowed me to handle her and her kittens - so they got
used to human contact/presence. When winter came, they found out very quickly
that the inside of our house was warmer then the outside.... and there was
free food.

One of the cats sleeps on my chest while I watch TV and the mother lays next
to me and lays on the garage floor while I work on my car/motorcycle. I was
never a cat person but that all changed now.

Our local county animal shelter neuters cats for $45, so we had all of them
neutered.
