Dexter 7K axle seals

Dexter axle newbie here,

I have just secured a horse trailer w/LQ that will be used as a motorcycle hauler RV (a Bloomer).

It has tandem Dexter 7K torsion axles that need a good dose of TLC/R&R.

Are there USA made components? I *really* do not want to work with Chinese components.

Thanks in advance,

Timken bearings are the way to go.

A friend told me about using polished Timken bearings and the benefits of reducing the drag of standard bearings. I was skeptical but upon watching the videos and installing the bearings. I'll never go back...

Got my kits from negearpolish.com

All,

Thank you for the sources.

What I am finding is that there are slight variations/options when looking for specific #s.

My task this weekend is to lift the trailer, remove the wheels and hubs, and get the exact axle & part #s. The trailer is a 2000 year model so maybe there are some USA components.

Depending on itemized costs, I may go as far as complete replacement of brakes and hubs.

Etrailer doesn't sell Timken parts when I was trying to buy earlier this year.

Your best bet is to source Timken bearings from a local bearing supplier.

Brown Bearing and McGuire Bearing are two that I use in the PNW

While I have had cheap Chinese bearing problems, I didn't have any problems with using whatever I could find in seals. If you don't use the zerk fitting, I doubt that you will have a problem.

Use American made seals! Also purchase double lip seals with a garter spring! The store should have a cross reference book for the seal #s. Clean the area on your spindles where the seal rotates. Lubricate the seal lips when installing. These are MUCH better seals!

I have a friend that bought the same. He ended up replacing his axles. The rubber "springs" had degraded to the point that they had to be replaced. His shop tried repositioning (clocking I think it was called) to get them back, but they would not hold the new position.

I suggest having them checked over by a good shop, before throwing money in parts at them.

I believe that Timpken has both Chinese and American manufactured bearings. You know which ones you want. Axle bearings were standardized years ago with all manufacturers using the same sizes, so you can get them from your local store if you choose.

I bought Timken bearings from Summit Racing

Other axle parts are available from eTrailer. Do not buy their Chinese bearings.

Thank you.

When I get all the part #s from the axle, is there a good single source for Timken?
