Asking for a friend, (really) He has a 36 foot HR with a Cummins. He's broke and this is his primary residence. Other than switching campgrounds seasonally and pumping tanks he has no miles on the oil but he feels he needs to change it before taking a trip.

He's 75 and is in cancer treatment. $200 for an oil change is a lot of money.

Can he put 10,000 more miles on this oil?

thanks

Oil That sits, especially in a diesel, gets acidic even with the low miles. I say change it. But seeing as how he really has no choice I say run it. I’m sure it’s done all the time. When he gets the chance and money have it changed.

I would run it as is if I was healthy. In cancer treatment? Air up the tires and go.

And, I would find someone who would change it for a LOT less than $200 and DO IT!

Yeah - changing every year regardless of miles is the std. But let's get real - life ain't perfect and priorities change. His rig isn't going to suffer catastrophic damage by deferring an oil change.

$200 is cheap insurance. Most manufacturers recommend the oil be changed at a certain mileage limit or once a year. To answer your question directly, YES, he "can" put 10,000 more miles on this oil. Is this a good idea? I would say no but he is the only one who can answer that question. Call Cummins and I can assure you they will give you the same answer as mine. Call Cummins!

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

Not going to disagree with the others, but do have a question,,,,
Are the tires over 5 years old too?
Them you may want to be more concerned over.

Actually I feel like it is ok but who really knows , 5 yrs is a long time .

I used to think cancer was a death sentence and 75 was to old to care
but I don't feel like that anymore now 75 is quite young and he may have a
lot of traveling yet to do .

Not telling you to do this but I would give my friend a 100 bucks and
say maybe this will help .

Like SOBOVA asked how about the tires ? Those may be the real concern .
