over the past few years, I have noticed that only one page of posts under the newest icon are visible
. are that many people getting away from this forum or is this a thing with the admin?

The site is slowly dying. Over moderated. Changing demographics. Other platforms eg Facebook, etc. No smartphone app. No easy photo facility.
IMHO.

What harm would it do to keep a "new" post for, say, three days even if it is not active. I, for one, do not spend the day looking at a smart phone 24/7, and sometimes it takes a day or two before I can read a post.

All of the above (except I'd like to see mods do more..) and new people that come along are often crucified.
For some reason they don't come back after that. [emoticon]

I find the software used here to be cumbersome. I find vBulletin much easier to use and has many many more features.

Perhaps the Admin could look into a conversion.

If you look at the individual subject specific forums the threads keep going. I've seen various threads stay alive for a week or more. Clicking "Newest" is nothing more than a database query. Queries like this need a date range and can also limit the number of results shown. In other words someone has to write the code to show a certain number of results.

It may be that a large number of results is affecting site performance and rather than spend the money upgrading and fixing the issue they simply limited the number of results.

Or they are making a conscious effort to give the impression that the site is no longer well supported in order to let it die by attrition.

One way or the other it's pretty clear that the powers that be aren't interested in properly maintaining this forum. I won't be surprised if one day it's just gone without any notice. After all, we get what we pay for. [emoticon]

This has been discussed at great length on different threads...

The fact that almost EVERY question a newbie asks, they get flamed about everything... The new Comers just don't bother coming back in most cases...

It's a shame, Once you sift through the rubbish, there really is some great information to be shared, and great people as well.. Heck, I've been here since 2008 and still learn stuff ....

Correct. Newest bring up new threads, not new posts. So any older threads with new activity do not show up as "newest".

On a brand specific forum I frequent, clicking on new posts brings up any new threads or older threads that have new activity since I last visited the site. A better way to do it IMHO.

Some “community” ideas could help IMO.
