Looking to replace the 2 coach batteries in our Winnebago Vista. How can I find out what size/model to buy?

OK, does you current batteries have 6 caps or only 3? If you have 6 caps they are 12 volt batteries and should have a size molded, printed on them. If they have only 3 caps, they are most likely CG6 golf cart batteries. Before disconnection anything take pictures of the configuration, and each post, to make sure that all cables get connected back up, and the proper configuration for 6 or 12 volt batteries.

The specifications on the Winnebago web site say two deep cycle marine Group 24 size batteries. Now might be a good time to get AGM batteries instead of the factory supplied wet cell batteries....no more checking water levels, no more leaking or corrosion......

measure the battery box then if your just a week end camper mostly hooked up to shore power, go to wal mart and buy the biggest deep cycle marine batteries that will fit in the box. and if you can,t handle the job of changing them take the rv to them they,ll do it free .. but a nice tip to the guy that does the work helps.

If you do any dry camp/boondocking get the biggest batteries that will fit. AMGs are a good choice.

Ok you have two different battery banks. The instructions may be the same.

Coach (Chassis/main) adn HOUSE (Aux)

Easiest way.

Day one.. Take a bottle of nail polish (red) or 2 (Red/black) and paint the wires. positive wires get RED. negative black.

Option. Spray paint

Take multiple photos showing where each and every wire goes.

Day 2: Disconnect the batteries starting with the NEGATIVE terminal if more trhan one wire attached use a bread tie or string or other means to tie all the wires together (zip tie?) Then do the positive wires. INSULATE these (Wrap in plastic wrap) Remove batteries to battery store.

ASK them for the battery size (NOTE it is printed on the label)

This is how I did my Engine battery.

NOW: In some cases it will cause a hardship to be without batteries.. IE: House systems if you do not have shore power) but if that's the case get ye to/from the battery store.. QUICKLY.

When you install the new batteries pay attention to red/black and the photos you took

IF changing from 12 volt to six volt pairs (each pair is 12 volt) make sure you know what you are doing first (Go to 12 volt side or life or park next to me or someone who understands this stuff if needed)

Home is where I park it.

Mark all wires, take pictures, take batteries to the store and come home with identical new batteries. Make a permanent copy of the receipt and you'll know what they are for the future. My copy is on the laptop which is well backed up.

If you do go to AGM batteries as Ed Gee suggested, you may have to change the settings on your inverter to AGMs.

The engine starting batteries are 12V. Not worth the cost to upgrade those to AGM. Best "bang for the buck" is at Costco or Sams Club.
