Last year we stopped for night in Dillan. Ran into a man pulling long bumper pull RV.
He suggested we use hy 55/41 from Whitehall to Dillan as it is a lower elevation route.
2 lane but not busy.
Thoughts?

Using google earth it looks like it could easily average about 1300 feet lower in elevation. Just a short higher climb between Butte and Whitehall.

MT55/41 climbs slowly southbound. If I remember correctly it is a good two lane highway. I would take it before the interstate just for the scenery and slower pace.

Are you talking about Dillon MT?

Google maps is a great resource for this. The terrain view will give you a good idea of the, well, terrain, and the street view shows you the road.
