Truck bed plug or just use plug in bumper for 5th wheel

Just curious to see how many of you add a plug in the bed of your truck to plug in the 5th wheel or do you use the one in the bumper? On my old truck they put a plug in the bed of the truck to plug in the trailer and when I lost a rear tire, so went the whole plug and wire harness. It tore it all out. I replaced the cable for about a $100 but may use the plug in the bumper on the new truck. Just looking at both ways to go so if you have a recommendation, please let me know.
Thanks,
Curly

I've done both but got tired of the cable rubbing the paint on the tailgate so I added one in the bed. There's a harness kit that T's into the existing truck harness. It's an easy install. My 2018 came with one in the bed already installed.

Apparently it's now a violation of proper etiquette. I can barely type this without cracking up 🙂

I use one in the bed. I don't like where I put it, but I use it and probably won't ever move it.

Added in bed sockets on my two previous trucks and my current one came with one. I find it makes for better cord management. Your results may vary.

And there is probably the best answer. Both work and the main argument for the in bed plug is a few folks have managed to pull out their plug while many others of us have never had a problem using the bumper plug.

I've been plugging into the bumper plug since 2008. Never had any problem.

I use my bumper plug always. I have one in the bed. It's easier to plug into the bumper. Etiquette......wow. Where the h*ll did that come from????

After ripping out the bumper plug twice, after hanging up the cord over bed corner, I put one in my bed.

We have done both, but prefer using the bed, like another posted... safety cable, and check the hitch all at once !!

I was told it is a bit poor etiquette to drape your plug over the bed to plug in below the bumper. Sort of “Cousin Eddie” like.
Or just remove the tailgate 😉

Both my trucks came with plugs in the bed (both had the full factory towing package) although the Chevy was a "cleaner" installation than the RAM.

I wouldn't choose o tow a fiver without it.
