Beach Stop When Travelling from WI to Orlando

Thinking of the possibility of a trip from SE WI to Orlando this summer, and considering a stop for 3-4 nights for a few days at the beach on the way. We could stop somewhere in Alabama or the panhandle, go further down the gulf coast, or even swing over to the Atlantic side. Our kids will be 15, 14 and 11. Any suggestions?

If you're thinking of Gulf State Park in Alabama best check early and often for a site. Two years ago we were there and it seems most people that camped there stop on their way out and make their reservations for the coming year. VERY popular park. FYI
Our 2351D Phoenix Cruiser, Jack, has turned us from campers into RVers and loving it!

You might like North Beach Camp Resort just north of St. Augustine. Lots of stuff to do on a 4 day stay. The beach is just across the street, and the inter-coastal is behind, along with some great restaurants. You could park and ride the trolley tour through St Augustine, getting on and off where you want.

We have stayed here...I agree, North Beach Camp is a great place to stay! And X2 for the beach, the restaurants, and that wonderful trolley tour through St Augustine, as well as the Fountain of Youth park, the Lighthouse, and the Lightner Museum.

We will be staying in Destin west rv resort in Destin Fl. on our trip this summer.
My kids are 13,15 and 17, so this will prolly be one of the last family big vacations...
From Omaha to Destin is approximately 18-19hrs (about the same as you) which we will do in two days,so we will need a place to unwind, close to the beach and all activities, the last thing Im gonna wanna do is drive around Destin.

From their website...
"Staying at Destin West RV Resort is perfect for RV'ers who enjoy the comfort of their RV and the amenities of a beachfront hotel! In addition to what the RV resort offers, you also receive access to every amenity at the gulf front The Island by Hotel RL, a beachside resort. It's located on the Gulf of Mexico directly across the street. At The Island, you will enjoy the grotto pool with a swim up bar, hot tub, lap pool, lounge space and most importantly, beach access! The Island also has indoor and outdoor eateries including a beachfront bar and lobby restaurant. Other amenities include games on the beachside promenade and an exercise facility at Destin West Condos."
Staying at the rv resort gets us close to all activities and full use of the hotel amenities across the street.

Crab island and the boardwalk are all close by.

Now the bad news.
Its expensive to stay, $150 a night.

The Florida peninsula west coast has little access to the beach. The east coast is better with several state parks and Jetty Park. The panhandle has a number of possibilities with several state parks. I'm not sure about commercial parks, all the beach access state parks are tough to get into year round, so check out the Florida State Parks website and make reservations now if possible. Alabama I am less familiar with but there is Gulfshores and probably more around there.
