Hello, driving a distance of more than one day from one park to the next. Where do I stop with my 30' travel trailer and truck for the night? Thank you in advance for any replies

We use RV Parky.
If you are going to stop at a rest area,(whether for the night or just a break), do not pull all the way forward in the parking stall.
Place the rear of your rig in line with the rear of the surrounding trucks.
You do not want trucker doing the cross legged jig, to whip into a vacant spot only to find a Jayco twenty feet in!

Another difference maker is what days of the week are you traveling.
RV parks that are full on Fri-Sat-Sun. are not half full during the week. My wife calls ahead to locations near the mid point of my drive, and makes easy reservations. Over night reservations are pretty easy to get.

It depends a lot on where youโ€™re traveling. East of Mississippi the rv parks are almost countless. Passport America is well worth the price of admission for the 50% off.
If youโ€™re far enough west of the Mississippi, maybe 300-500 miles and donโ€™t require water and electric you can just pull off on a wide spot on the road, especially if youโ€™re not using interstates. Campendium is a great free ap. It will give you lots of info on tons of places to stop. If you
consider boondocking an extra battery can help a lot. If you really get hooked a small generator is very good. For the basket cases like us, solar, generator and lots of big batteries can put you in some amazing places for extended periods.
Happy Travels!! This is a wonderful country. Go see it!

I have seen RVs with double sets of slides take up three truck parking areas at rest areas. That is what upsets the proffession drivers about RVers!
Try using some common sense!

You search out an RV park about half way.
That way you have power and water if needed.

Truckers do NOT like you taking one of "their" spots are rest areas.
Places like WalMart allow overnight parking in some places.....but not all.

Rest areas are not truck stops, they are for all travelers unless posted for prohibited vehicles.

I agree. Better to have some inane topics instead of no topics.

Hi Matt - I think our *secret* is trying to travel in the "off" seasons; and we're willing to settle for just about anything in the way of a campground. Have had some adventures, that's for sure - like showering in a converted cargo container with pallet floors; or sharing a restroom with some enormous spiders.....

But like you - we tend to be sightseers, and the camping part is simply having a spot to sleep quietly and safely. (We have also discovered tiny and wonderful little campgrounds where you are welcomed like family and you're actually sad to leave)

Happy travels!

Hello, youโ€™re all being conned by s once-and-done newbie poster with a ridiculous question bound to elicit lots of opinions.

How is this a ridiculous question? Give the guy a break.

Some truck stops have RV areas, so you aren't parked between a pair of idling big rigs. Casinos are always a good bet (heh). They all have restaurants, and the parking lot security is second to none.

x2! This type of response, to a newbie in the Beginning RV section, is likely why there are less and less people posting here. There's been a significant drop in activity, in the Beginning RV section, for the past few years. And responses like this one, don't help new members feel welcome.

We've never been in a situation where there's no RV park when we need one for the night. I use an app called Allstays (cost $10) that will show every option you can imagine. I would much rather pay for a night of peace and quiet, than stay at a truck stop/Flying J, etc. And often, you can find a park with limited hookups (like electric only) for a cheaper price - or even just parking in an overflow area with no hookups.

Did anybody notice that JWVDKIV never answered my request for more specific and somewhat essential information. I would have to bet he is a troll and was only looking to confirm what he thinks.

But,
Deb and Ed M,
I am glad for you and I would like to know your secret. We are travelers, we go places to see and do things, so camping is just an side activity that we put up with. We have often been stuck for a good ONP spot. When we used to buy campgrounds, we often had to shut down the travel day a couple of hours (100miles+/-) to be lined up for a crampground. No Longer An Issue. With a self contained and non-monster coach, we are happy any place that is sort of level and half-way quiet. Walmart has fallen out of favor but there are lots of others. Truckstops and interstate rest areas aren't even on the list these days.
