The truck had 63,000 miles and looks like new. I would also like some verification that regular, preventative maintenance was performed, but the carfax shows none at all. So some sort of prepurchase inspection seems like the best option, however the truck is at the local Ford garage now so who, other than the Ford dealer, could I get to do the inspecting?

So the engine has 5 years/100k miles warranty so you still have some time on warranty to cover any issues there. Also these trucks tell the driver when to change the oil and change the fuel filters so if the truck looks like new it most likely wasn't abused. Most dealers thoroughly inspect a trade in and use any findings to reduce trade in value so they should know if they found any issues.

I would have the dealer provide you their inspection report to see what they inspected or didn't inspect and work from there.

Are those factory warranties transferable to the next winner? If they are, that would be wonderful and easy my mind considerably.

Yes... But you should always ask to verify from the selling dealer what specific warranty is left. You may want to negotiate a Ford ESP plan as part of the purchase.

Well I just found online that the warranty is only 3 years or 36,000 miles. So there is no warranty to transfer.

Agreed and that's the bumper to bumper warranty, but the engine has a 5 year/100k mile warranty that I thought you were concerned about due to maintenance neglect.

Oh,wonderful, I must have misread my own research. Yes the engine and transmission is the part I'm concerned about. That warranty is transferable too so that is good news too. I'm beginning to feel better about this truck due to all of your comments and friends I've been talking to also. Thank you.

I really wouldn’t put much faith in car facts. Unless it is an insurance claim, or something done at a reporting repair shop it wouldn’t show up. I had the front end of my last car torn up big time when I hit a pig on my way to work. Fixed it myself, no way that would show up on car facts. I do all my maintenance, so none of that goes on there. I guess the difference is that my cars are old and have a TON of miles on them, so not something someone would run car facts on anyway.

Who would buy a truck like that new and not take care of it? It retailed around $60000. new.

carfax, farfax

Why not ask the owner if and where he had the vehicle serviced. If done regularly at the same place you should be able to find records.

Have a Ford dealer run an Oasis Report. This will show any warranty and or service work done at a Ford dealership
