I chose an autoformer instead of a surge device, so that voltage may be corrected.

Why? Because the main cause of damage is low voltage, and the current popular surge devices disconnect at a voltage that may cause damage.

I use both. pedestal/autoformer/PI EMS/trailer

MeToo - I use both. pedestal/autoformer/PI EMS/MH

My path is a little different.

autoformer with better surge than PI or SG-->Magnum inverter/charger(limited to 24 amps)-->RV

Regards, Don
My ride is a 28 foot Class C, 256 watts solar, 556 amp hours of AGM in two battery banks 12 volt batteries, 3000 watt Magnum hybrid inverter, Sola Basic Autoformer, Microair Easy Start.
