They know Vertical as "Portrait" and horizontal as "Landscape".

Alas. the Dumbing Down of America in evidence, I fear.

There is a you tube video where they gave some teens a period of time to actually DIAL a phone number..... No buttons (Save the hang up buttons in the cradle (Just a big wheel with 10 holes in it.

Did not watch it.. but I'm sure the kids had problems.

I have also heard that places are removing analog clocks because people can't tell what time it is (I wear a "Digi-log" watch. it's digital but the display is analog with hour, minute and second (multi function second) hands... It's also a watch I never set... Tells the correct time even if I don't set it ("Atomic" watch set by WWJ, the national bureau of standards)

And a frequent MEME on Facebook is "Soon we seniors will be able to communicate in a super secret code the youngers won't understand...Cursive"

Sadly.. all true

This is an issue that so many people have and don't seem to understand the difference between vertical and horizontal. I tell family members, at gatherings, to please turn the camera horizontal but some are so accustomed to vertical they can't understand why. If you watch people on tv at, concerts, etc. you will see that almost everyone is holding phones in the vertical orientation. I guess this is fine if you only want to view them on the phone, resize them or they plan to turn their laptops or video monitors up on their edges to watch.

I use Thumbs + but it's not freeware.. There are several editors and I think even the program that is now bundled with windows can do it.

Good news is you have an Android. I'm finding more and more the "I" in IOS as in I-Phone means "Incompatible" But that's another thread.

VLC. Is my default player on all my devices
But that is a display play setting
Only in effect during that session (unless saved)
And not specific to that video
If that setting setting is saved
All videos played with VLC in the future, will be rotated, whether needed or not

Best to rotate with a video editing program

And record videos in Wide screen
Not
Tall screen

Not that the OP had given us any feedback
But it seems the most logical reason m of why this problem
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

In Windows 10, MovieMaker is no more. Win10 comes with the app called Photos. Open the video clip there to edit it (it should be what happens by default if you double-click the video). Unfortunately, rotate is not an option for editing the video, BUT, if you click the Edit/Create button, then Create a video with text - you are now in something that looks a little like MovieMaker and there is a tool for rotate.
Hope that helps.

OR

with the video on your phone, you can open it in Google Photos (or Samsung Gallery), tap the edit button and Rotate.

Handbrake is a good program

What orientation aspect did you record the video
Normal horizontal like a camera and movies
Or
Vertical, holding cellphone straight up/down

You will have a lot less video issues
If you hold the Phone sideways and record video in Normal movie viewing orientation
I can explain it to you.

Handbrake is a video converter that has an option to flip the video.

I believe if you Right click on the file, a window with various video display programs will come up. Then you can select the one you want to try editing your video with.
