Overnight stops (truck stops, etc) with shore power?

It has been over a decade since we have traveled with an RV and needed to stop overnight at a truck stop or rest area while traveling.

I know that some truck stops have evolved into full service overnight stops with power, heat, WiFi, etc for truckers. All for a fee of course.

Besides the obvious campgrounds, are there any truck stops that offer shore power at a fee for overnight stays?

We are on a three month cross country trip now I can drive 500 miles a day getting from NYC to the southwest so for the price of a half tank of gas. I get a good nights sleep at a KOA. We always feel safe and have full hookups even cable for the DW.

Unless it is very hot I don't see a need for power. I don't like the steady rumble of truck engines or the hum of gennys so truck stops would be a no for me.

Walmart etc. can be a good option but even there you can get the self centered thoughtless wonders who will park in the middle of a group who obviously do not have gennys & run their racket all night on a nice cool night.

Depends on many things.
While I have propane heat (If I wish it) or Electric (if I wish it)
and an on board generator (If I need it) and at most truck stops running it all night with the GEN-TURI is not a problem....

Some folks are scared of propane so it's all electric.
And without the Gen-Turi an all night run of the Genny might be the last mistake you ever make (As in you don't wake up in the AM).

Some only have a little bit of battery for Furnace power (or fan power) Trust me a single Group 24 won't last the night.

But if you have that kind of rig.. park in a campground please.

That monster 5ver doesn't have onboard power?

Towing that rig around and wanting a lot of quick overnight options, the simple answer is bring your own power.
Also cost effective vs paying for a campsite and you can always recoup most or all of your investment in a generator if you don't want or need it down the road.

And not nearly as limiting. Anywhere you stop the rig for the night, only need to pull a cord to the truck bed and fire up the genny.

There are some truck stops that offer that but they are few and far between.
2011 Keystone Sprinter 323BHS. Retired Master Electrician. Retired Building Inspector.

All Motor Homes are RV's. All RV's are not Motor Homes.

I really frown on overnighting in truck stops now....

Ever Since the government changed the CDL drivers HOS, ( Hours Of Service ) and implemented the mandatory ELD ( Electronic Logging Device) Drivers MUST stop after a certain time frame and have 10 hours off duty, not driving . There is really no way around it like in the past. We ( yes, I did it ) used to run 2 log books in case we got stopped...

Have you noticed just how crowded the trucks stops are now, compared to a few years back ? Those drivers just can't pull into a campground, let them park where they can fit.

Good to know. As stated above, AC use in the summer is the element driving this question. Close to the interstate is ideal of course.

Last year, I stayed at one rest area on the Ohio Turnpike mentioned by DrewE. Also stayed at two gas stations (one in IL and one in MI) that had RV sites with electric.

The Ohio Turnpike has a few rest areas with RV overnight spots that have electric hookups and a dump/fill station for $20 per night. Here's the details straight from the horse's mouth.

There has been a few times when driving late we would overnight at truck stops and Walmarts along the way, our inverters sure came in handy those nights, when it was hot we ran the Onan to cool down.

I haven't noticed any trucks stops offering shore power, but we don't truck stops often enough, somebody should believe it's a good idea for those of us trying to make time and stay close to the highway.

Luckily, we have enough casinos where my DW loves to overnight, at least I might get a beer and some breakfast in the morning. We do spend extended time off the grid enjoying all our rig has to offer.
