GM, Tesla and Ford have now offered to manufacture ventilators.

I wonder how quickly they can tool up to do this. Hopefully this will just be an exercise to see how effectively industry can respond to a pandemic under the Defense Production Act, but I feel like it will be more than that.

I agree that hopefully it's just an exercise, but they will probably work with the leading manufactures of these products and simulate their designs and tooling in which I don't think will take too long.

More is the point they will be using 3D Printing to actually make the Ventilators. Factor in many CPAP companies can make the masks and Ventilators as well

OEMs have state of the art 3D printing capabilities.

This is one of the reasons why automotive industry should stay in the US instead of moving production overseas, especially China. We have become dependent on overseas manufacturering and when that supply chain is severed it shuts down production.

That dont make any sense
If you want to sell overseas you must have factories there also.
Everyone does btw

our leaders should grow some brains and do like Chinese
Ie work on PREVENTION of spreading the virus in the first place instead of playing catch up now

In China its mandatory to wear protective face masks when outside and life goes on just fine w people working, incuding the Tesla factory

I think if you check it was the Chinese who let it get out of control.

Simple facts are difficult to grasp. The real question is how out of control did they let it get. I haven't heard a solid explanation of why there are suddenly 20 million fewer active cell phones in China. Where did they go?

Here's Bill Ford on this topic. Sounds like Ford is stepping up to the plate.

Here's another video of the manufacturers stepping up. Not sure what to think about FCA producing them in China.

As noted earlier, many of these items should be made here, or at least in NA! As China makes a high % of the n95 masks needed. Malaysia IIRC makes 80-90% of the surgical gloves for the world. Issues with this virus have slowed both places from producing appropriate quantities of products for the world over!
I can understand why some manufactures move plants to be more regional per say.

Saw an interesting article where Ford is going to build pressure breathing masks with 3M. Apparently the seat cooling fans from F-150 are nearly ideal. Using a 12v Dewalt battery they can run 5+ hrs.
