We need to think about some facts; This virus easily transmitted person to person. And a percentage of people, (not sure of the percentage, but likely larger than flu.) will die if they get it. And it can be passed from somebody who's body is not telling them they have it. And so far, we do not have the capacity to test enough of the population to know who has it.
2,500 Americans died of COVID-19 yesterday. And the CDC says that's an under-estimation, due to lack of testing. Estimated 30,000 new people contracted COVID-19 today. That brings the total to 650,000. We need to get the idea between our ears, this is real. And in some places, the numbers are getting better, but only where the distancing is practiced.
Pick a topic. Any topic. Say dentists. Say cars. Or higher ed. Home-buying. Wars. Healthcare. Sports. Home repairs. It doesn't matter—just pick a subject, then spend 20 minutes talking with an intelligent person about how it'll be changed by COVID-19 and you'll see the problem.

While your talking to them about Covid-19, why don't you also ask them how they'll be effected by massive unemployment for the next year or two.

15,492 out of a population of 29 million. That's about 5 people in every 10,000.
Now, in New York City, the number is closer to 130 per 10,000 people.
Now, if we all keep to the stay-at-home routine, the virus isn't going away. At some point, when we all start to venture out again -whenever that is - the virus will still be out there. We aren't eliminating it by staying home.

Some people just don't want to get it..... We are not going to go back to the way things were, ever!!
When we "reopen" and relax the shutdown policy that does not mean somehow the concerns about Covic are gone. Some businesses will open but with restrictions. Other businesses will not open for the foreseeable future. Some will go out of business. Our society will change in ways we cannot predict.

The USA can't be closed down forever. A couple months ago everyone was talking about restrictions until we get to "flattening the curve" to prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed. Well, our healthcare system never got overwhelmed (yes, some places are certainly busy), and now the curve is "flattening" in places.
So, what are some of the powers that be saying? "Now we have to wait until we are on the backside of the curve before letting people out of their homes!".
At what point do we start planning on opening our front doors? So we get on the "backside of the curve"... how much you want to bet that some in government will then say "WAIT! We have to wait until everyone is healthy!" - which will be NEVER.
For parts of the country where the china virus is virtually non-existent, why are they being restricted? For parts of the country where the "curve is flattening", why are we not planning on reopening?
NO ONE that I have heard is saying we should just blow the doors open, dang the torpedoes, full speed ahead with no concern for health. As it is now we have stores open in quarantine areas with health controls such as wearing masks and social distancing.
Why can't other stores and businesses open and operate like that?

The stay at home orders were never intended to “make the virus go away”. They are intended to give the health care system time to get the necessary supplies and testing capability in place to deal with the much higher level of illness and severity of illness that is coming with this pandemic.
Go look at the developing situation in Grand Island NE and assess if you think their testing capability and health care capability is ready for the increasing level of illness.
Do you think the supply of PPE and testing capability is high enough to handle the current level of illness or the increased level of illness that will occur when the stay at home orders are lifted?
The question shouldn’t be “when will we open the economy”; the question should be “when will (or why isn’t) our health care system ready for an open economy”.

Until you post your bona fides proving that you have at least some expertise is in either pandemic management, or economics,( I will accept at minimum a masters and ten years experience) If you provide these I will crawl on my bare ass knees to beg your forgiveness. your words are worth as much as my dogs donation to the compost pile

I submit that all of the posts are somewhat biased and of opinion,big deal. Did you think of this as a medical or scientific forum? Did anyone sign on as a doctor?
