The attitudes of a few around here don't help, but there's more to the drop-off than grumpy old farts and creaky forum software.

I agree the software appears dated, but I like the functionality.

That happened to me to. I think they are limiting the number of members in the forum at one time to reduce the chance that the COVID-19 virus will get passed on. (That makes about as much sense are the real world shutdown)

Thanks Schlep1967! Never thought of that—so used to clicking on “newest” that I never realized how much more there is on the active site.

I've been here for 16 years.

This place has evolved and changed and it's certainly not as active as it was when I first came here.

August 2017 Marcus Lemonis tried to drive away half of his customers - that might have something to do with the decline in this forum, which he owns.

1: Social media. Face Book specifically.
2: Snarky attitude filled answers, coupled with argumentative answers.
3: Posts that contribute nothing to the original subject / question.

Agree with all 3 and notice #3 a lot.

The various topics have been asked and answered multiple times so using the search function can cut down on new posts. The 22 page thread I read on Battle Born batteries answered every question I had and a lot more on top of that. The posters put some real effort into it lending it some real value to novices and experts alike.

Other boards I have been on cliques drift off to be with their chosen group on fb or twatter or whereever and the synergy goes way down or is lost completely. (I don't partake in sm.)

The newness of msg boards has past as well as the ability to connect with others from all over the world. It's so commonplace now that we take that for granted. I remember trading designer fashion products from NYC to a guy from Japan who was sending me JDM bass baits in return. Now you just order it up and that stuff appears on your doorstep in a matter of days - there is no longer
a need to make a personal connection.

There is a huge depth of knowledge here and some great people, but things aren't ever going back to the way they were when the internet first became a tool to learn and connect with others of like interests.
