From reading the article, they’re not merging. They might, but not yet.
Having just dropped DISH and switched to HULU and streaming after DISH jacked my rate to $150/mo, I would MUCH prefer DISH if it were close to the $65/mo I’m paying now.

Both Dish and Direct are probably very nervous right now with the rollout of the SpaceX low earth orbit satellites said to be going online near the end of the year. It'll be the start of a whole new world in communications. I'm waiting anxiously to see what the cost will be for phones and data.

For me it's about content, and DVR. And on the road it's darned expensive to stream through your hotspot, so I'll be with DTV to the bitter end.

When they can get cell service to reach a few more places then maybe I'll get rid of the dish.

I
X2 on Hulu. Just dumped cable TV and went with Hulu Live at about $55 a month. Couldn't be happier. Cheaper with more and better content. Final straw was when Spectrum notified me our service was going up $30 a month. Cable TV is in big trouble imo. If you have good Internet bandwidth streaming is the only way to go imo.

That’s the big issue for many. We have camped in many areas where cell service is weak at best. Heck, we live in a heavily populated area 35 miles from Dallas and both AT&T and Verizon cell is weak within a few miles any direction from our house.

Check this out - Elon Musk has BIG PLANS for the future of telecommunications unlike anything we've ever dreamed about - STARLINK! There WILL NOT be any area on the earth that doesn't have coverage. If you can get internet, you can use an voice over IP for your cell phone. Of course the question I haven't seen answered is what is this going to cost?
SpaceX plans to start offering Starlink broadband services in 2020

HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS ACROSS THE GLOBE
With performance that far surpasses that of traditional satellite internet, and a global network unbounded by ground infrastructure limitations, Starlink will deliver high speed broadband internet to locations where access has been unreliable, expensive, or completely unavailable. https://www.starlink.com/
Stay tuned for developments in this rapidly changing world of technology!

Yep streaming is the way to go and internet is being available in more places every day, I cut the cord about 4 years ago and I get 10 times the channels at half the cost of Direct TV and far less commercials..

Interesting to see the reliability, the speeds and the cost. Wondering how efficiency would be in heavy precipitation occurrences?
