My buddy is installing a hitch himself and asked me a question that Was not sure of the answer.???

He asked what the normal placement is for a hitch over the rear axle? and why?

He has a 2017 f350 long bed and said he can be either 1" in front or 3" in front??

The more the better ?? how much weight could it shed to the front axle placing it at the 3" in front mark as apposed the 1" ??

Won't make much difference. I'd go at the 1" set up, less chance of the top rear bed corners contacting the overhang.

I'm not 100% sure what he has, Possibly a B&W ? Does it matter ? Why full forward >??

Let your buddy pick where he wants the hitch. I’d stay out of it...you won’t get any credit if it works right but you’ll get some blame if it doesn’t.

I agree that a 2 inch difference is negligible. With a long bed, totally his call.

I gave you SPECIFICS about B&W. IMHO it’s always nice to add a bit of weight on the front axle. Typically 100# or less.

Sounds like he MAY have a B&W going off those numbers??

Mine is set at 1" ahead right now because when installing I was unsure of my clearance of tailgate. Did a dry run this weekend and found I have 6" from end of tailgate ( when down ) to front of fiver. This weekend I plan to spin my B&W mounts around to give me the 3" ahead of axle .. Why ?? Why not ...
