Unless of course you can show me in the manual where it says you shouldn't do it.

X3 Get out, bend over and look with a flashlight. Check that the pin is captured by the fifth wheel. You may be high hitched, or maybe submarined the pin (pin rode up and over, dropped in front of the fifth wheel). Do it the same way every time. Don't let people or events distract you. Checklists are good, if you use them.

Plugging the power cord into the 7 pin plug while the truck motor is running has always been enough juice to raise and lower my front jacks when the battery is dead.

I agree with ford truck guy.
17 years on my 16K Superglide without a problem.
Two things I religiously look at when hitching.
Handel is all the way in and locked.
Latch is wrapped around king pin.
Latch on Pullrite wraps around the king pin not just a bar across.
Have never had an issue with unhitching.

Same as comments above. I've pulled with a Superglide for 6yrs and 50k+miles and love the hitch. Can't believe it was anything but operator error.
Look to make sure pull lever in all the way in, check to see that wrap-around jaws are around kingpin and that you're not high-hitched. If you do both of these things I can't imagine how the Superglide could fail. Maybe there's a way, but I can't imagine it.
Always double-check the wrap-around covers the kingpin and not high-hitched, ESPECIALLY if it's been a while or you're distracted.

I have also used a SG for years. When you hear it snap in its locked.
Thing that caught my attention was he said he moved a friends trailer before.
Did it have the SG plate on the pin box? It had better!

Has nothing to do with the landing gear motor. It is the surge of current hooking the truck to the dead batteries in the trailer or another vehicle.

NOPE, just a king pin hanging down. Why would that matter? Just would not do the auto slide???

Correct, A few have "locked out" their SuperGlides and removed the capture plate for different reasons with no issues.. Me being 1 of them
