Is this big rig the ultimate tow vehicle?
Melbourne-based, custom-built Scania toy hauler truck can tow up to 30 tonnes(66,000lb)
Most caravanners step up to a big American pick-up or light truck when more regular tow vehicles like the Toyota LandCruiser aren't up to the job.
But the Melbourne owner of this fine-looking rig had other ideas... sick of being overweight in his previous vehicle, a RAM pickup, he started looking around for an alternative.
"I had the RAM, a 6.7lt, and found that we were travelling at 1.3 tonne overweight, with the caravan and the boat on the roof," owner David said.
"My mate has been a driver for Scenic Tours and has always been a lover of Scania and I wanted a 4x4, so we looked around to see what was available… and ordered a 4x4 from Scania and set it up for retirement and touring."

No not for Off Road vehicles foreign objects get between the tyres. Scania used as on highway towing vehicle would have duallys but not as a 4×4 Off Road spec

A bit more on the rig
Quote:

With a gross vehicle weight of around 27 tonnes,( 59524lbs GVWR)and similarly impressive gross trailer weight, the big Scania should have no problems towing his 24ft Bushtracker

Quote:

It has all of the safety aids including radar cruise, autonomous emergency braking, driver and passenger airbags including Scania's rollover side airbags, lane departure warning, and connectivity to Scania's telemetry, so David will know exactly how his truck is performing – and how he is driving – at any time.
And speaking of driving, David informed us his wife Jan would be driving as well: "She's already had a couple of goes," he said. "We just whip out the Driver Under Instruction plates and she's off – she loves it and reckons it's pretty easy to drive. She's getting her licence any time now, certainly before we head off."

More like he is using it as a massive tow vehicle, with an equally massive payload, rather than making it the base of an expedition vehicle with living quarters. Living quarters is the Bushtracker Off Road Caravan
People tow larger Off Road Caravans intially with V8 Diesel Landcruisers, then if Heavier US HD diesel Pickups like the RAM 2500-3500, but if the payload starts really going north, it is Japanese Trucks or European Trucks, can be light( Japanese) or MDT ( Japanese or European) or HDT's in some cases
