I'm going to change the gear oil in my 2011 F250 that has an electronic differential lock. Will this do the job or do I need something with a friction modifier? It calls for a Motocraft synthetic oil but I have no idea if it has a friction modifier in it or not.

An electric locking dif does not not need an additive, since there are no clutches.
I'm not sure what weight fluid it calls for, but Lucas is good dif oil.

Read to your hearts content. Good independent test about many gear oils

BTW Lucas is garbage. In fact the very worst in this test.

75w-140 synthetic. Preferably the Ford Motorcraft variety. It's more expensive, but that's what my F150 calls for too.. It's only like 3 qts so why cheap out??

Look in your owners manual... That's where I found it for your F250 online and my own actual printed manual that's still in my F150's glove box.. [emoticon]

there are several different rear ends in F-250s. They call for different viscosities. Check the manual.

More than likely 75W140 synthetic. no friction modifier needed in an electric locking diff. as has been said, there are no clutches. its open when not locked!

My independent mechanic, heavy truck one side, cars the other, will only use the fluids and parts recommended by the vehicle manufacturer (your owners manual).

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I'll go ahead and use the Motocraft gear oil.
