I recall Ford made an F350 Camper Special with the rear axle way aft on an 8’ bed.

The Tag axle for pickup trucks is currently being manufactured by:

Pack Enterprises

The developer/manufacturer was at the (last?) Natcoa Rally with a tag axle currently in production.
Last I heard from him, he had recently obtain DOT approvals and was to begin commercial production.

He is a member of the Lance Owners of America (LOA)Lance Owners of America forum under the handle PACK4TAG

This TC was posted on the forum last year also. My old neighbor bought one and it actually had a matching truck, a truck camper special, from the factory. Two tone brown to match the TC brown stripe.
It was nice, but he let it rot away, never used it. He really just wanted the truck, but got a TC in the package.
He still has it, Im sure it gets worse with every rain.

Built from 1973–79, the Super Camper Special.
This one also has a Ford camper.

Because the moved the axle further back they had to relocate the spare tire.

I love this spare tire location !!! I have never seen this. It is such a great idea. You lose a little bed room, but wow!!! Why it did not catch on, maybe bc nobody knew about it, or maybe the bed/axle spacing is wrong on all trucks...

That bed space is unusable for most. Make other side fitting 30-40 gallons of fresh water tank and you have perfect truck for mid-sized TC.
Too bad TC owners are minority and can't make enough demand for manufactures to consider the options.
