When I bought our tag, I wanted the rear 4 rims to all match. I know that on some tags, the rim on the tag axle matches the front rim design and not the double wheel tag axle rim. Why don't all four rims match on all tags?

They are the same, only the tags are turned around to fit properly.

To have that real "dual wheel" look effect, the offset of the wheel would be so great, you'd be replacing wheel bearings every year, and the tire wear would probably be even worse.

Without the inside wheel being there, you just can't pop the outside wheel in the 'dish' position and think it's just going to be fine..

Good luck! Mitch

The rigs with the tag matching the front axle equates to a steering (passive or mechanical) tag

No, not hardly. Whether the wheel dish faces out (like the drive axle) or in (like the front wheel) really depends on the coach design in that area. When a shorter tag axle is chosen the brake drum or disk is positioned in line with the drum (disk) on the drive axle. The tag wheel can then be mounted dish out to match the drive axle. When a coach designer chooses a long tag axle the brake drum or disk is mounted considerably further out and the wheel is then mounted with the dish facing in. Although I haven't been under one of these mounts, I expect the designer is using some of that added width (brake to brake) to mount other items. I agree it looks a bit stupid though. Tiffin tags are are on a narrow axle so the tag wheel mount matches the drive axle outer wheel look and tracks the outer drive wheel. Our Bus had over 110,000 miles since it was built in 2013 and wheel bearings are just fine. 5 round trips to Alaska over some very poor and some very good roads.

I thought he was talking about just switching the wheels to dish out on the original setup... Sure, if it's designed to be that way, it should be fine...

I just didn't interpret the original post correctly... [emoticon]

The alum rims are all the same... a steering tag is wider than a tag that raises so the rim goes on the same as the front axle.

Most of the rigs with steering tags have 10+K lbs on them and raising it would overload the drive axle and tires by 50+%.

My Tiffin Zephyr on a Spartan K2 chassis had the drive wheels and the tag wheels the same. The drive axle was dually of course and the tag was single. They were both positioned the same.
