We have just purchased a motor home and are doing a lot of research on which vehicles are the easiest and best to tow flat behind.

We are wanting a suv type as its not so low to the ground & better fuel mileage.

Please wed like to learn form the experts on the road not what the salesmen say.

We have been Rvers full time for over 20 years with a 40' 5th.

Try to avoid as many of the add ons as possible to make a vehicle towable: ie: drive shaft disconnects, lube pumps, etc.

If you desire an automatic transmission you will likely have to go with a 4wd vehicle. Jeep models have worked very well for us over the years. Models like the Liberty, and Grand Cherokee.

We have towed a lot of Jeeps and all worked well. A Colorado or Ranger would work too.

If you want a decent inexpensive vehicle to tow, that can carry quite a few people, pets, or supplies, a 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR is a great toad. They can be towed 4 down with an automatic transmission and all you have to do is pull one fuse. I installed a switch to bypass the fuse when I tow. All it takes is a light kit and a tow bracket and you are good to go. I had diodes installed on mine so it just uses the existing tail lights and brake lights. It is very light so you don't really know it is back there.

I have a 2011 Fusion Hybrid that I flat tow and just bought a 2020 Escape Hybrid that I will set up to flat tow. I believe that most hybrids are flat towable and I know that the 2 I have are easy to tow.

The Chevy Equinox is a very popular suv toad. I see a lot of them . Both front wheel drive and all wheel drive Models can still be towed 4 down. Priced more reasonably.

We opted to have a nice vehicle to drive when not being towed, so went with a Cadillac 2015 SRX front wheel drive. Tows great, very easy to make ready, no fuses to pull.

If you can find a 2011 HHR, it is an ideal toad. light, easy to connect and disconnect, fun to drive. But for some stupid reason, they quit making them.
