Welp...changing plans again. Our normal spring trip was canceled due to the bug, so we were going to take it in the fall. Now it looks like the trip we planned for the fall will be reschedule till next spring. Figure with the bug still flying around and a lot of the points of intreat being closed or reduced operations. we'll just wait. Now the new plan is just to go to Colorado for the month to see the fall colors. Looking for recommendations for places to see and stay. Not our first time in the state been through many times.
Scenic full hookup campgrounds on rivers, lakes and streams.
Small towns and hidden treasures. Open to any and all suggestions..Thanks

Head for the western slope and higher elevations.
Colorado not only has yellow and orange aspens, but red ones.

we stayed at Arrowhead Point RV park, just north of Buena Vista CO and found it nicely located for day drives to Aspen and Leadville. Lots of color in mid to late Sept.

We'll see you out there - just need to get there Early 15th is the latest - the 30th- will be great - Passes turn first - as for shear Beauty - Buena Vista and the Collegiates, issue is it is close to Denver so will be crowded - second but equally Beautiful would be the San Juan's. We've been out here this summer and will return to Maryland to check on things and head back in September - Places and drives we have loved - Independence Pass - Cottonwood Pass - RT 24 Leadville to Minturn/Vail/Avon - Red Mountain Pass - Ophir - Ouray - Monarch and Wolf passes - Alpine Loop - Steamboat - Kremmling - foothills -............................... Just get there there are no wrong choices - just never enough time.
Best of Luck,

The location is not that important. Each year is a little different. Finding good aspens in the fall in CO is so easy a blind man can do it.

We toured Colorado in the Fall of 2012 on my Harley Road King. That's the way to see the colors and sights. We saw lot of rigs boondockin' here and there.
Some day soon we will go back with the toyhauler.
Have a nice trip. KEN

This is one of our favorite places to stay. Beautiful drive over Cottonwood Pass plus other great areas for fall colors.

Kebler Pass west of Crested Butte, Marshall Pass from Poncha Springs to Sargents (both gravel roads for TVs or toads only), Lake San Cristobal at Lake City, and CO 62 from Ridgway to Dallas Divide are our favorites. But, after the fall color we had in 2016, our new favorite for "late fall" color (1st weekend in October) is CO 17 over La Manga and Cumbres Passes between Antonito and Chama. If NM is still shut down by then, you can camp on top of Cumbres Pass (still in Colorado) at the USFS Trujillo Meadows campground. Or lose a little elevation by backtracking to one of my favorite USFS campgrounds in Colorado--Magote (NOT private Mogote Meadows!)--on CO 17, 16 miles west of Antonito. It has several miles of fly fishing access to the Conejos River.
