Curious to know how they got around the PATS system. The system came out in 1996 and by the 2000's almost all Fords had it. My 02 Excursion and 01 Explorer had it.
At least they found it and it wasn't destroyed! They do make a guard that bolts in behind he door handle to stop someone (or slow them down) from breaking in.

Super Duty trucks didn't get the PATS system until 2008
2002 Ford F250 Lariat 7.3l 4x4 CCSB
2007 Forest River Sierra Sport M-26FBSP
My 2000 F250 was stolen several years ago when my dad still owned it. Fortunately he got the truck back with little damage. I might go the kill switch route as well. I use a Club when I'm parked in public areas but I know those are defeated pretty easily by someone who really wants the truck.
I guess I need to look into this for my truck. My tuner has a no-start setting, which I use, but the read out on the dash says “ns” so that is kind of easy to figure out.
