I just purchased a 2017 Majestic 19g in Everett, WA. The temporary Washington trip permit is valid for 3 days. I'll need to get this 19g registered in Oregon; however, since the world has shut down, specifically the Oregon DMV, do I need to worry too much about the Washington temp permit being expired? The new to me RV does not have plates, just the temp permit.https://www.oregon.gov/odot/DMV/docs/Citation_Moratorium_Memo.pdf
Thanks for any help you may provide to this RV newbie!

I live in Virginia. Over 30 days ago, we purchased, from a dealer in Florida, a used Class C. Sunday, they ran out, so I have a Class C with expired temp tags. I called the dealer in Florida. The dealer sent, via FedEx overnight delivery a new temp tag good for another 30 days.

I tried to call my VA DMV the other day. All I got was a recorded message saying, "Due to the high volume of calls, they were not answering any phone calls." Virginia government is a screwed up place now.

I also emailed the VA DMV. I got back an e-mail reply. It said, "Due to the high volume of emails we will get back to you in the future." I guess 3 days later isn't far enough in the future.

Hello,
Thank you all for your input - greatly appreciated!
The RV is in Oregon and is insured.
I had placed a call to the DMV first thing this morning, because of the fires/air quality, all offices and phone customer service are closed today.
I was able to get a VIN inspection appointment for tomorrow, we'll see if it happens! I'll also order a trip permit.

Again, thanks for the input!

As others have said - don't sweat it. My wife was wringing her hands because her tags had expired and the smog testing stations were closed in Portland - it's the anxiety of the law abiding citizen. I pointed out that the govt maybe inept but the law enforcement officers have bigger fish to fry. We have at least 10 RV's parked within 2 miles of our house that have people living in them with tags that expired 3 yrs ago.

Call the DMV - unlike the unemployment office they still answer the phone.

This sounds familiar, did you just purchase it on 9/13 and the trip permit is still valid? If so get into Oregon, then contact the Oregon DMV, and get a 15 day trip permit if you plan on driving.

Did you purchase from a Dealer or Private party?

We dealt with the same issue in early 2019 when we bought our Ram near Everett, 3 day trip permit issued 12/31/2018. Went to local DMV on 1/2/2019 to get trip permit. The selling dealer had FedEx the sale and title paper work to Oregon DMV. We were at the end of our second and last trip permit when we were able to get our Grey Whale plates.

Best advice CALL Oregon DMV.

In Oregon, I wouldn't worry too much.

We ran into this in Michigan. They did something similar. New titles were something you couldn't do online and the next appointment wasn't until Ocober.

That wasn't a big deal in August when we were just doing some local weekend trips (we did have insurance and told them of the situation). But we are about to head out of state for the winter.

Finally got a same day appointment by checking every office within a 3 hour drive each day.

Of course, even during the worst, they kept the lottery offices going.

Citations for missing registration, plates, etc. will not be issued this year. So you may not need to rush.

That said... Your insurance plan may only cover registered vehicles. Appointments for VIN inspections are booked a ways out, so you might need a trip permit for now, depending on you insurance requirements.

You can buy a trip permit online here: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/DMV/pages/vehicle/trippermit.aspx

VIN inspections can be done at offices with Drive-Up VIN Inspections, or you can book an appointment online:

Other than that, all other registration info is on this page:

Or this page, if you did not need a loan to buy it: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/DMV/docs/trooshavetitle.pdf

I believe most Oregon DMV offices are open, albeit with COVID restrictions....reservations usually required. Most registration issues can be done on-line. You might take a good look at the Oregon DMV website. To remain legal you do need to get hour RV to Oregon before the Washington permit expires. Once in Oregon I suspect things to be a bit more forgiving if you don't get registered quickly......call or contact them Their customer is pretty good.

DMVs are revenue collection state departments. They register your vehicle if your paper work is in order, collect big fees and then send tags and plates.

Not sure if the same is for out of State purchases, but as A CANADIAN when I purchased my RV in Arizona I had to have the dealer drive it to the state line, so as not to pay state taxes they then give a 14 day permit to go to another State or back to Canada

I really doubt any PD is going to tell you or authorize you to operate an unregistered MV on any public highway. The best you can do is get some kind of DMV extension on the temp. Make sure you at least have insurance. If your state requires an inspection that will also need to be addressed.

I'd get OR police or highway patrol input, document what they say and keep it in the RV. What about insurance as that would be my main concern?

If I had insurance I'd probably use the RV in OR.

Oregon DMV is shut down for phone calls and emails? Try a little harder.
