Having driven logging trucks for years on the snow and ice,I can say that weight can be your enemy just as it can be your friend..It was quite common to put one chain on the front axle to steer and keep it on the road..I never leave the house without chains for a 4X4 or 2wd.

Really heavy truck camper being as top heavy as they are,are an accident waiting to happen on snow and ice on pitched roads, especially without chains.

I would agree with jaycocreek.

I've never scared myself driving a truck up a hill...

ARBs are great. I installed front and rear in my jeep ten years ago and have never had a single problem with either one.

I am sure the ARB will prove itself. I opted for TrueTrac front and rear and while not a locker all four wheels will be turning in demanding situations. OK if a wheel is hanging in the air it might be an issue but that is not where I go. Mud, snow, sand, etc the TrueTrac just works and is ready full time always. I have 150,000 miles on these and they work same as new.

My only experience is a front ARB in our jeep Dana 44 I installed back in 2002. Clean air and annual oil changes, not engaging under hard load-never had an issue 18 years. From completely open to 100% full lock with the push of a button.

My F-3 fitty has the factory electric rear locker for low speed three wheel drive. No locker in the front. It auto shifts to open diff as speed increases. I can't remember if it stays locked in if you are using low in the transfer case.

This is what I dislike soo much about the newer vehicles.

The manufactures and their attorneys think they know more about the situation that you're in and that they are mare capable of driving your vehicle than you are.
