Open nearest faucet Cold Side and let pump run
It should prime when it has a place to discharge to
Gave that a try OB with no luck.
How long did you let it run??
Can take quite a while when run dry provided you don't have an air leak on suction side
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I let it run about 30 seconds and saw no water go into the strainer. Should I let it run longer?

Yes
It should be one of the diaphragm pumps and they are not hurt by running dry. It can take a while.

So, did you just put a little water in the tank or fill it? Tank needs to be pretty full to re-prime the system.

I believe the pump may be shot...It’s for this reason that I’ve always carried a spare pump...

We have a winner! Filled the tank up and it primed after about 15 seconds of running.

These pumps are SUPPOSED to be self priming. However they can Air Lock.
So as one reply. JUST ONE that I saw Said. Open a major faucet. or stand on the toilet flush vlave to relieve all pressure on the pump outlet. YOu should hear it pick up and prime
I also suggest filling the supply tank FULL.
Home is where I park it.
