Will be taking our first trip out to Lake Sommerville this weekend towing a 27ft. TT. Maps say to take Hwy. 21 but I'm not familiar with it. How's it for towing? Any other suggestions? I'm starting out in New Braunfels.
Thanks in advance.

I can't help with that run but I've run the Caldwell to Crocket part every year. 21 is a good route across NE Texas. Will be at Yegua Creek in a couple months.

I have only done the run on TX 21 from where it joins TX 71 west of Bastrop to where it crosses US 290 near Paige. It is a fine road, towed my 5th wheel on it.
I have found that state highways of Texas (as opposed to Farm to Market roads, which are generally OK, but more twisty-turny and more narrow) are very good, with perhaps a few exceptions, exceptions which I personally have not experienced yet.

We've been on 21 - it was a good road. Most roads in TX are decent roads.

Thanks for all the feedback. Just got back last night. No issues. TX21 was mostly two lanes each way except for occasional areas where it would drop down to one lane for a short distance. I would not hesitate doing it again.
