It’s a well known (but often frowned upon) way of seeing behind you. It’s also a good way to get tailgaters off you tail!

I have CIPA brand slip on mirrors from etrailer. They fit well, give a good view, look good and do not display any vibration while underway. I have recommended them to others but I don't know if they will be long enough for an 8.5' trailer.

I suggest you check DMV regs where you are.
Thanks for the link....I checked the main states I will travel in, NM, CO, AZ, all have a 200' rule which I assume means, I can see anything from 200' back.

I want to thank everyone for the informational and courteous replies.
While on the subject, I am guessing some of you use a camera system, often install in 3, i.e. sides and back or even two backs, high and low. The preferred method is wifi?
Appreciate advice on both the mirrors and cameras

Any Airstream larger than 23' long is 8.5' wide. (Any Airstream shorter than 23' long is single axle. My 23' Airstream is the smallest of the large Airstreams because it has tandem axles, and the largest of the small Airstreams because it is 8' wide.)

The clip on mirrors will work fine. Don't overthink it. Be careful changing lanes where the mirrors may have a blind spot, otherwise let'er rip.
Cameras are nice, however, I'd argue that you don't want extra "distractions" while making your rookie trip. It ain't rocket surgery and you sound like you're very astute, so go enjoy your new camper!!
