I like that little thing. In that configuration I think it would be a perfect candidate for fords new EV driveline. I’ll be surprised if they don’t have an EV version in the next 2 to 4 years.

Hikerdogs wrote: Have you actually driven one to experience the performance or lack of it? Earlier this year I was looking for something to replace a 2010 Ford Expedition. The only engine choice in the 2020 Expedition was a 3.5 liter V6. I couldn't believe it would have any power or torque compared to the 5.4 liter V8 in the 2010 model.
After a short drive I was amazed. The 3.5 has twin turbos and far out performs the older 5.4 in all around performance, acceleration, and fuel economy.
Nope, haven't driven one, but numbers speak for themselves.
Just like the numbers on the 5.4 vs. the 3.5 EcoBoost, which are as follows:
5.4 was 310 hp and 365 lb ft of torque.
3.5 EcoBoost is 375 hp and 470 lb ft of torque
Well, no wonder it far outperformed the 5.4!!!! Surely you were aware of the vast difference in hp and torque before you compared them.

So, they want me to pay nearly 30 grand for a base model Bronco Sport, and my one and only engine choice is a blasted THREE cylinder 1.5-liter?? Really???
Now, I can (almost) see only 4 color choices, and only one interior choice (color AND material), but sorry folks, I just can't bring myself to buy a little three-banger. It brings back memories of Geo Metros and the like.
C'mon Ford, don't force everybody to buy up, and up, and up to get something worth having.
There, done venting.
I get it too... you just have to force yourself to look at engine specs rather than number of cylinders...after all, nearly all OTR heavy trucks are moved by six cylinders, and the Ram diesel guys will no doubt put their six cylinders up to the other guys V8s. 181 hp and 195 ft./lbs of torque is more than enough grunt to adequately move a little rig like the Bronco Sport.

Remember, this is the same company that has redesigned the Mustang to be electric and look like a Crossover.

Mike I’m sure this contributes to the discussion, just not sure how.

It IS exactly the same when it comes to number of cylinders. That was my point.
A 30yr old 3 cylinder naturally aspirated design vs a modern turbo charged 3 cylinder....If you think that is the same, you haven't got a clue.
Also, 197hp and 213ft-lb of torque which the turbo can generate at 1200rpm...that should be plenty for most users.
Then again, most buyers will never show it anything worse than a dirt road.

(almost identical to that of a new 4-cylinder Camry!!) You only need tons of power if you want to climb a sand dune at high speed or maybe plough through a mud pit of some sort.
I assume bronco has a 4 low selection when low speed high torque is needed.
Too bad there is no 4 down towing available.

My point was the same number of cylinders -- three. Period. That's all. And, I DO have a clue, after having been in the automobile business for 30 years. I know that 3 = 3, regardless of anything else.
Thanks for your 'contribution' to this post
Oh, BTW, your hp and torque ratings are wrong for the standard engine in the base Bronco Sport.

Quote: AutoTrader dealers are advertising a total of 234 Bronco Sport models, complete with VIN's. As an FYI... after checking in with those that have had their orders scheduled, apparently they then show up as “inventory” for their selected dealer. FAKE NEWS!!! ![biggrin [emoticon]](https://forums.goodsamclub.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/biggrin.gif)
