Sorry for your loss. You were a great parent by giving your four legged family member the last act of compassion. It is always hard. We have had so many in the past that have gone on and are comforted by the memories. May you also take comfort in your memories.

So very sorry, Crowe. Been there and know how hard the loss is. Hope your other baby can adjust. Your loss will be felt by the whole family. That decision is our last act of love for our babies, not to let them suffer.

So very sorry for your loss. Losing a family member is never easy, even when we know it's best for them.

Prayers for healing, especially for Jake.

Again, thanks to everyone for the kind words. They are very helpful. Jake went to bed last night with no issue but was up about 1/2 hour later caterwauling. He wouldn't settle in so we took him out of his crate and let him roam upstairs. After walking around for a bit he settled into his bed in the family room and slept well. He's been very happy to go for walks and just ride in the truck when we are running errands. He also got very excited tonight because he got to say hello to some trick-or-treaters. I'm hoping once he adjusts he'll be OK. And although we said we wouldn't do it we are already starting the search for another Springer puppy.

RV-less for now but our spirits are still on the open road.

It is always extremely difficult to take that last ride with our fur buddies. I have had to bury 3 of my buddies in the back yard. I sometimes go out there and talk to them. I don't want to think about taking our current rescue dog for his last ride but eventually I know that it will happen.
My daughter is working from home just like many other people. She asked to borrow our dog to keep her company. My wife and I both miss him but we know that right now, my daughter needs him. He is a good companion.

Crowe - you have been an awesome dog-mom and I know how hard it is to do the Final Trip :-( and I'm so sorry. While a new pup never fills the gaping hole in one's heart left by the departed pet, they do add a bit of busy distraction from the loss.

Thanks again everyone. Last night I found out what it's like to sleep again. Jake went into his crate without issue and when I went down this morning he was awake but just chilling out. The sight of just one crate is the hardest to handle but little by little we will climb back up and start over.
