If you tape it use a silicone self fusing tape like Rescue Tape rather than regular electrical tape.

ahhh yes, as an old Air Force aircraft mechanic we called this F-4 tape since it was said that this tape is what held the aircraft together.
Funny thing is someone who knew went out and made a business out of it and you can now get F-4 tape. I can remember the distinct smell of the tape as it was peeled back.

Just the wire insulation is missing about 2mm. The copper is undamaged. The outside jacket I have peeled back to see how bad it was.

That being the case just tape up with 3M Electric And go have a beer.! The tape is good to over 600 volts.

I am on the same page as just use liquid or solid tape. Or in a junction box if you are so inclined to redo the connection. And not to get lost in this debate. Correct what ever situation you have that allowed this damage in the first place.

I didn't see what caused the original damage. That would be good to know. Any repair should take this into consideration.

Tape it up with heavy duty electrical tape that's designed for such application and carry on!!!
No need for a box and no need to cut the wires!
Simply wrap each wire separately and then over the entire stripped back section.
