Still looking for a truck. Really concerned about the CP4 in the Ford and newer Rams.
Going to look at a '17 3500 next week. Has the HO/Aisin. 80,000 Kms
Anything I need to look for?

Keep in mind the 3500 SB only has a 11,700# GVWR. In addition the Aisin needs a fluid drain and refill at 30,000 miles or about 48,300km.000

The CP4 issue has been way overblown in my opinion. Call your local dealer and ask them how many they have had to replace vs how many trucks they have sold. Also all HO trucks built after July 2020 have a revised symmetrical CP4 pump that may be a fix for those CP4 problems that did arise.

Looks like a beauty!
My 2018 has been almost flawless. They replaced the radio due to a Uconnect problem. And the rear tires only lasted 25k from all the towing torque. 33k miles on it, over 20k of those are towing.
Fantastic truck!

I'm not so sure that CP4 issues are "overblown", but more as a result of inadequate filtration. The newer Rams have great filtration, and I believe the newer Fords do as well. I was afraid of them for years, but I haven't heard of issues now that better filtration is standard.

Definitely ask to see the service records if it’s from a Ram dealership or take the Vin# to one to get it.
My ‘17 has been much better than my ‘14 but has still had 2 expensive repairs just out of warranty. First was an O2 sensor ($1200) and last week another $1200 for an ABS hydraulic actuator and module. The last one seems to be a common problem that Ram won’t admit.

Rear tires only 25K????
Must have been some cheap tires or underinflated for the weight
I tow 2K# heavier 5th wheel then your Highland and get 60K Plus on my tires

I had a 2017 Ram 3500 although it had the 6.4 Hemi. Expect a ton of brake dust from the front brakes and inspect the calipers. Mine started sticking at 9K miles and replacements started sticking at 15,000 miles. Other than that, it was a great truck!
