From Maryville to Townsend it is a wonderful dual lane road for the most part. Just before Townsend area there are about 2 - 3 miles that is single lane still with a few decent curves (35mph) but not that bad.
Coming out of Townsend, you enter a steep grade with multiple tightish curves. This is the worse section but doable if you don't mind typical single lane mountain roads. Once in Wear Valley it straightens back out for a few miles. Then it gets a bit curvey and hills again the last few miles into Pigeon Forge.
Haven't driven from Lenoir City to Maryville but should be a decent dual lane road the entire way.
If you want an alternative, suggest 321 to Maryville then 411 to 441 into Pigeon Forge. The worse section of this route will be 411 which is a pretty straight and flat single lane road. Everything else will be dual lane.
