Every year is different. What works one year won't work the next. Something I learned farming floods last year drought this year or vice versa.
One thing we have going for us is more reliable weather reports that reach out ten days or so. Not perfect but better than a big toe that tells you the weather is going to turn.

Oct/Nov altitude is not your friend,, stay low as you can. Shasta can snow that time of year, but it is rare, and won't stay on long.

There is a lot of beautiful coast in CA vs a boring interstate. But I5 south is a option and if so take 20 to I5.

If you are adventuresome, CA 1 south of Ft Bragg is interesting. West from Willits on CA 20.
Don't recommend going south from Leggett. Not sure if legally you could travel on that section.

Of course, no guarantees but it it generally doesn't stay long in fall, we don't mind waiting a few day. Especially if in a nice area

The Shasta area is on I-5. OP, I thought you wanted to take the coast route which is US 101?

Several miles out of Leggett on 1 there are several 15MPH switch backs and then it's a decent and beautiful drive on the coast. CGs near the water, Ft Bragg - take the Skunk RR, Mendencino etc. We usually spend a week at Bodega Bay as it's one of the few areas we can go to legally. Most of 1 including S of SF is prohibited for MH's over 40' but not TTs. We enjoyed Ft Bragg but a slide closed 20 for us.
A great trip would start at the Olympic Penisula and head south on 101 and 1. You'll have some wind, rain and cooler weather.

Highly recommend the OR coast. Astoria with the trolly and Maritime Museum, Ft Stevens CG, Lewis and Clark and many other areas down to Brookings.
