I don't see much issue with the roads or security, I would be much more concerned with driving a class A that far with unknown reliability. We have owned virtually every class of RV over 3 decades of RVing and without a doubt class A rigs have so many things that could go awry. Good luck and safe travels, hope your new to you rig is all that you expected.

550 is 4 lane and a major route with more traffic, support facilites, and state patrols. 491 is more desolate, with fewer support options. I-40 from Gallup to Albu has a lot of traffic, some construction, and many support facilities.
DO NOT try to follow 191 all the way down to I-10. The stretch south of US 60 is not for large vehicles.
Crime will not be a problem, the weather may be.

OK, now I am confuse, is 491 or 550 a more traveled road south of Shiprock.

SLT to South Florida. at this time of year, use the major highways. get south as quick as you can..
1-80 - I 25 - I-70 - I-35 and south.

I would avoid as much of new Mexico as possible, thus I-15 to St George and then 89 down to I-17 and follow that down to I-10. You can then get thru NM without spending a night in the state.

Get off the high county as soon as you can.

Actually, thinking about it...if the weather across I-70 to Denver looks good, that might be a better option.
Once you hit Denver, multiple options open up and you can choose a route based on weather. From there on, pretty much everywhere is more developed, so if you have issues, you can get assistance more easily.

How can they be native Americans when there was no America. I prefer first nation peoples though that is a misnomer as well.
