They might not leave you tankless but I've heard of some scoundrels switching out old dated tanks for newer ones.

They are being stolen to make a batch of drugs. Once used for that purpose they are nolonger useful for their original purpose.
Often methamphetamine cooks use propane, and sometimes oxygen, tanks to steal and store anhydrous ammonia, a hazardous substance commonly used for meth production. When those tanks are taken from crime scenes, authorities aren't always certain as to what the tanks contains.Nov 12, 2011

I use a short bicycle lock cable. Seems more robust than the YouTube idea.

Not a good idea....if there was ever a fire, those tanks need to be removed from there quickly to avoid an explosion. I would not want them locked to the trailer in any way shape or form.

Maybe not while camping. But I have heard of it happening on off-site storage.
