However, US citizens can freely cross in both directions with no issues.

Based on the link, this sure seems contradictory to me.
Maybe a new definition to what is classified as "essential vs non-essential travel"???
And, assume this is referring to the U.S. Mexico border, not the U.S. Canada border (both were mentioned in the link).

The US border allows people to leave, and if you are a US citizen or legal resident, they can't stop you from entering.
This is also true if you are a Canadian citizen or legal resident returning to Canada via the US.
The Mexican border is welcoming tourism, issuing visas and vehicle permits.
Everything is open if you are flying.

Yep, I don't get it. People are coming from some of the most affected states. Although Mexico's foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard signed the agreement with Canada and the U.S. to close the border, they keep letting people in. I don't get it.

Looks like I'm fighting a losing battle. It's going to be a long two more years. I've lost several friends and many colleagues, averaging one every two weeks.

Tallyho. Canadians returning to Canada may NOT enter the USA. To quote a cbp official: If you do not have a US passport you cannot cross. There are some exceptions but they do not apply to tourists or RV'rs. Examples are: essential workers, enjoyment, medical appointment. Canadians may fly in with no restrictions. When the border first closed in March the USA was allowing Canadians to return to Canada. Not now.

What about the people, Canadians that have left here and driven home to Canada through the US? It is happening, and even is happening now. It's a fact.
I have had several people contact me as they were crossing through the US and state that at the US border they were simply told to drive safely.
