The tremendous crowding of NPs have occurred a lot in the last 25 years.
I can remember being in Yosemite in the 1970s and it was quiet, we did not need a permit to climb Half Dome.
I used to go to Yellowstone at least every 2 years or so. There were no reservations needed. We used to swim in the Firehole River. By Sept there was hardly anyone there.
Now I avoid NPs except in the off season.

Love the pictures.

Been to 7 National Parks and 5 National Monuments in the last couple months. I am a huge fan of the parks and I mean this in no way to disparage or discredit them but I've been struck by the locations and how they came about....

It's interesting that we in the modern world find so much value to these places but for the most part, these are places the pioneers saw as worthless land and that's much of the reason why most of these places still exist relatively untouched. Canyons, deserts, mountains, swamps, etc...all worthless or even a hindrance to the pioneer (possibly with an exception for mining).

Again, I don't mean this in a bad way just an odd thing that struck me.

Gary ... a great find ... thanks much for the link! That kind of material makes for fantastic reading.

P.S. Are you camping somewhere, or stuck at home like we are?
