Easy and travels well for road trips.

“Boats”

“Boats” can be made of any crusty bakery type roll. Cubans, Kaisers, baguettes, brötchen, French steak rolls, ciabatta, even a hot dog bun will do in a pinch if we can't find any of the above.

Pinch out the bread from the top and middle and then fill the “boat” with your favorite meat, seafood or cheese filling. Bake at 350?F for 25-30 minutes and you have a hot sandwich that will fill an empty belly.

Some of the favorite boat fillings at our house are:
• Sausage and egg
• Bacon and cheese
• Pimiento cheese spread and cooked shrimp
• Any ground meat recipe. Picadillo is a favorite.
• BBQ’d anything
• Pork and beans topped with bacon bits
• Shrimp salad (serve it cold not baked)
• Broccoli and cheese
Leftovers that need to be stretched to create extra servings can be done this way.

Save the pinched out bread to make bread crumbs in your blender or processor. Mix with powdered garlic or other spices and freeze or use to top the boats.
