Keep those in a faraday bag or case when not in use. New vehicles only need the key close to the car, then when FOB is close the door will open and the push-button start will crank the engine and unlock the wheel.
Thieves can amplify your FOB signal (which always broadcast), and send it to your vehicle while you are away and just like that they are driving off.
Or they can clone your FOB signal and duplicate it.
Faraday bags will block the signal, and are around $10 on eBay.

Another good reason to like a key instead of another gadget. But, truth be told, if I had a car with a fob, I wouldn't carry it in a Faraday bag. I guess I just like to live life on the edge. ![[emoticon]](https://forums.goodsamclub.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/smile.gif "smile")

That kill the convenience of having that feature. No worse than then 3”x 4” plastic covered door handle in many Ford trucks.

This came up on the forum not long ago: you can neither start nor unlock a car if the FOB is wrapped in aluminum foil.
If I ever need to shield the FOB then I will come up with a solution that is cheaper than a farabag. Foil or a metal can will work.
But I know that my truck cannot be unlocked or started when the FOB is on its hook in my fifth-wheel.

Someone with a receiver can be near you when you click your FOB and record the signal. Then they make their own FOB which will work just fine. A key, they have to actually get possession of to copy its impression. So, yes, a key is much safer because it is much more difficult to duplicate.

If they boost the signal to get in and start it , won't it shut off when it gets out of range? Or is that the reason they go slow so the owner can run behind keeping it running?
