Some if not many home owners in Texas were able to use the onboard generators in the new Ford 150 pickups to power a limited number of appliances such as lights, coffee, microwaves , etc. for warmth and hot food and internet, charging phones, tablets, etc. The larger the engine then the more powerful the generators.
This will send the sales of new 150s into space orbit and I may switch from Rams to Fords next go.
All the insurance cost for the damage repair in Texas will also be passed onto the rest of us.

Precisely why I keep my toyhauler gassed up and ready for an emergency such as that. We'd just move into the RV. Good on Ford for the onboard inverter/gen.
BTW, TX was warned ten years ago that the state was inadequately prepared for a storm such as they just experienced and they failed to act on it.

Some Ford dealers were loaning out their hybrid F150s with the larger generators for homes/ with no power.

That’s some great publicity.
And a good gesture.
We were down in Dallas during the first storm. It was more of a colossal mess than I would have imagined. We finally left last Tuesday and drove to Albuquerque to get a flight home after several flight cancellations and another snow storm on the way.

How big are the generators in those? Different sizes?
Single empty-nester in Middle TN, sometimes with a friend or grandchild on board

There are a few different outputs available but roughly equivalent to the portable generators you see used by RVers.
The up charge alone is more than a quality stand alone inverter generator.
Of course, if you have one and need power, you would use it but doesn't seem the greatest option if pre-planning.
We were in the RGV last week and most people just pulled out their portable generators. We noticed a few people their pickups running...then we figured out, they had connected the truck battery to the RV battery so they could keep the battery charged enough to run the furnace. Lots of things you can do if caught in a bind.

There are three different ones available depending on the engine. They have a 2.0 kw for most F150s. And a 2.4 kw or the optional much larger 7.2 kw generators on the hybrid F150s.

Not true - the 2Kw ProPower Onboard is a $995 option. That's right in line with similar size generators. And then you're not hauling around a separate generator and gas can, nor are you filling the tank every 8 hours. To me this will be a no-brainer option to add. I just wish we hadn't just bought a 2020.
The 7.2kw I 'believe' you can order separately (I think it's a $2000Ish option?), but it's more geared to be part of the hybrid model.
