My 2018 diesel Ram 4x4 2500 has coil springs front and back. I'm overloaded on my 5th wheel (2000lb hitch weight) and total GVWR by 800 lbs after everything is loaded up for travel.
My local spring guy claims a heavier duty coil spring upgrade would solve the overload problem, since everything else on the 2500 is heavy duty. I would like to know if anyone else did the same to their similar truck and recommend it. Thanks.

How much does it “squat”, when loaded? You see, the thing about RAM is the 2500 HD uses the same engine, (6.7 liter Diesel), the same transmission, the same brakes, the same rear end, and the same frame as the RAM 3500.! The things to watch for are the spring rates, and tires. I had a 2017 4x4 RAM towing a 35 foot 5th wheel, it “squatted” about 1 inch between empty and hooked up to fully loaded 5th wheel, pin weight was 2,350 pounds. I had some stout Toyo tires 12 ply and rated to take the weight, and everything was fine. `Now if your going to be worried about the “paper” weight limits, your going to have trade up to a 3500. Keep in mind the weight limits Keep in mind that those differences are based on regulatory limits not necessarily engineering differences. In many states there is a significant difference in registration fees between the 2500 models and the 3500 models because of the weight differences. So they artificially debate the 2500 so that its registration fees are in line with the 1500, otherwise they would be the same as a 3500. Good luck.

What is the RAWR......6000#?
What is the scaled weight on Rear Axle??
That is your limitation....add springs, upgrade suspension etc but stay at/under axle ratings (tires also but they are usually a bit higher rated then axle)
Is it time for your medication or mine?

A hitch wt of 2K will not overload your rear axle or tires. A 2018 Ram 2500 can easily carry that pin wt.

But here is the kicker, if you are over the weight of what the door sticker says and you are in an accident, the insurance can void your claim because you were overweight.

Yes they'll pay up to the limits of your policy. It's the follow on Civil Suit by those Lawyers that advertise on the Tele getting Millions for their clients.

I have heard this so many times it makes my head spin. There is a thing called RAWR. Also if this were true they would not pay when you are intoxicated and at fault in an accident.
So since I am running at my RAWR but 1,000#+ over my GVWR can my insurance void my claim??? Even tho by not adding a single pound to my front axles unloaded weight of 5,250# and loading to my RAWR of 9,750# I simply can't avoid being over my GVWR by 1,000#.
OP if you are under your tires and RAWR limits you are good to go.
