X2, Mexicowanderer. I've been encouraging people to keep up with cardio checkups. At any sign of heartbeat irregularities, get started with an anti-coagulant (blood thinner). The newer meds are a big improvement over the older warfarin; much safer and less diet restrictive. I've had no adverse reactions taking Eliquis, 10mg/day.

I think taking a blood thinner wouldn't be a bad idea for a person who spends much time sitting in a wheelchair, such as myself. Too much sitting is known to be a possible cause of blood vessel blockage in the legs, which may possibly be prevented with a blood thinner. Airline passengers on long flights face this danger, too.

in the absence of a prescribed blood thinner, perhaps aspirin may help, but I'm not a medical professional, so I would encourage a person to consult one.

I have been using the VA system for years. Clinic on Ft. Sill near Lawton, or the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. The clinic just expanded to include audiology, physical therapy, expanded dental, optometry. Saves me a few trips to OKC, 35 miles vs 70 miles. Parking is never a problem at the clinic, and the OKC facility just expanded parking to include a multi-level parking garage. Although I am 100% disabled, I seldom use the handicapped spots. As long as I can, I will continue to park on the backside and walk. Works for me.
